From Porto Seguro to Melbourne: Steve's Zouk Journey

In 2000, while on tour with other Rio Rhythmics teachers in Porto Seguro, Brazil, Steve Reilly encountered a mesmerizing dance known as “Zouk.” Captivated by its allure, he eagerly embraced this new world of movement—and soon returned home to Australia with a mission. Determined to share this vibrant dance, Steve began introducing Zouk to local audiences, even sparking some of Australia's very first Zouk socials in Brisbane by flooding DJs with CDs of authentic Zouk music.

Fast forward fourteen years, and after experiences in marriage and parenthood, Steve found himself walking into his first Brazilian Zouk lesson at DanceIM—a moment he describes as "seeing colour for the first time." This revelation solidified his passion for the dance and his commitment to honing his skills. With a dance journey that began at age 15, spanning ballroom and various Latin styles, Steve’s background provided the perfect foundation for embracing Zouk fully.

His passion and dedication propelled him into the heart of Melbourne’s dance scene. Today, Steve is widely respected in both Melbourne and the broader Australian Zouk community. He’s taught at numerous events around the country, served as a qualified judge, and earned a reputation for his emotive performances that truly connect with audiences.
